Leather Cleaning & Conditioning

How to Double the Life  of Your Leather Lounge Suite

Keep it soft, supple and sexy (or as sexy as leather gets; I just needed a third ‘s’ word.)

Most people think leather requires no maintenance, and that’s the great thing about it. They believe the only reason to clean leather is to make it look great. However, if it isn’t cleaned and conditioned (sometimes called protected) regularly, eventually its natural oils and topcoat protection break down.

FENICE, an Italian designer, manufacturer and tester of leather goods and speciality supplies, was quoted saying, “Over time, undetectable skin oils and acids that naturally come into contact with the leather without proper cleaning and re-protection will cause cracking, peeling, or discolouration.”

From soft, supple and sexy to hard, stiff and ugly.

What’s the  solution?

It is recommended that leather be cleaned and conditioned 2 to 4 times per year depending on usage. This is to make sure that the top coat of protection put on the leather in the manufacturing process is never worn away.

The Leather Cleaning Process:

1.Vacuum the leather.

2.Spray cleaning agent, agitate with a soft brush, and rinse.

3.Wipe over the entire suite to remove further soil and cleaning agent.

4.Apply conditioner and gently rub in.

5.Polish.
